Exploring Trongsa: Bhutan’s Historic Mountain Stronghold
Dramatically perched above the Mangde River, Trongsa Dzong dominates the valley with its imposing presence and rich spiritual heritage.
Trongsa Dzong
Visible from miles away, the dzong is a labyrinth of courtyards, passageways, and temples decorated with vivid mandalas and sacred Buddhist imagery. It once served as a seat of great political power in Bhutan’s history, especially during the 19th century when its governors held significant influence.
The Watchtower
High above the town, the ancient watchtower (now a museum) provides sweeping views of the surrounding valley – a striking reminder of the region’s strategic importance and scenic beauty.
